GINGIVECTOMY

SOMETIMES A LITTLE CHANGE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!

What is gingiva?

The gingiva are your gums that attach to and cover your teeth.

What is a Gingivectomy?

A gingivectomy is removal of excess gum tissue.

Why would someone need a gingivectomy?

Sometimes a person is born with extra gum tissue covering more of their teeth than is necessary. Acquiring extra gum tissue can also be a side effect from certain medications. In both cases a gingivectomy may be warranted. This procedure will reduce the amount of bacteria that gets trapped around your teeth in addition to improving the aesthetics of your smile.
