PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE

JUST LIKE YOUR CAR NEEDS A TUNE UP, YOUR TEETH AND GUMS NEED REGULAR MAINTENANCE!

Periodontal Maintenance

Supportive Periodontal Care:

Once it has been determined that the active phase of your periodontal treatment is completed, your periodontal status will be considered stable. A custom maintenance program will be developed by our periodontal team and your dentist. It is important for your periodontal health to be maintained. Studies have shown that those with the highest risk of developing periodontal disease are those who have previously had active periodontal disease.

What to Expect:

Your periodontal maintenance visit will likely include: a review of your health history, an evaluation of any changes to the tissues within your mouth, a review of your oral hygiene, measurements outside of and under the gumline, potential X-rays to assess your teeth and the bone supporting them, removal of plaque and tartar from your teeth, a review of oral hygiene instructions, and an examination of how your teeth contact when you bite.

How often should you have periodontal maintenance?

The frequency of your visits will be governed by the type and severity of periodontal disease you were treated for, your response to treatment, the extent of periodontal treatment, your oral hygiene, and your risk for developing future periodontal disease.

Who should receive periodontal maintenance?

The severity of gum disease prior to treatment will impact who performs periodontal maintenance once you become stable. Typically, the more severe your case, the more often our periodontal team will need to oversee your care. Together with your general or restorative dentist, we will create the most effective schedule for you.
